What We Do

Hospital Development and Training Programs

The miracle of vision restoration is not possible without the cooperation of health care professionals working together to make the process as smooth as possible.

The North Carolina Eye Bank employs hospital development staff to increase awareness of eye donation and cornea transplantation in the North Carolina health care community through professional and public education.

Hospital development efforts are vital to our success as the compassionate and dedicated health care professionals that attend our education programs also refer potential donors and provide a final act of caring to families by offering them the option of donation.
Development staff work with hospitals and make regular visits to hospices and medical examiner offices helping to develop policies and procedures that facilitate eye donations.

Staff members also coordinate and present in-service education programs; follow up on referrals and donations; and keep hospital administrators aware of any changes in North Carolina Department of Health regulations on tissue donation. In addition, staff participate in community service projects such as health fairs and presentations to community groups.
