George Adam Kell, II

George Adam Kell, II was born on May 18, 1967 in Opelika, AL, the first son of George Adam Kell and Willine Davis Kell.  George, Sr. was in the Air Force, and the family moved to many states and Germany, as well as traveling throughout Europe, before settling in Fayetteville, NC.

He was involved in sports growing up and enjoyed being on little league football and baseball teams.  When he was 12 and interested in Civil War history, his nickname became “Jeb” after the Civil War General Jeb Stuart.  He graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College and went on to work many years in Security Services as an industrial security guard working throughout Raleigh, Selma and Fayetteville areas.  He enjoyed reading, history, fishing, hunting and western movies to name a few.  He was very religious and was saved and later on baptized.  He is survived by his parents George and Willine; his brother Michael Kell and wife Kris Kell; his sister Rebecca Kell; his son George Adam Kell, III and his nephews Michael Kell, Jr and Christopher Kell.

Neil Kennedy

I remember Neil as the fun-loving person, full of wit, always ready to pull a prank on someone.  I met him at Sunset Beach and one year later we married.  He never forgot an occasion to give me lots of jewelry, clothes or something for the home.  He was such a great man and I’ll miss him until I see him again.   I love you, Neil

Joyce Faith Kneip

December 17, 1956 – October 8, 2007

Joyce was a loving daughter and a proud mother to her own daughter, Wendy Lane.  Joyce was able to walk down the aisle last year on Wendy’s wedding day.  Her smile lit up any room.  She never knew a stranger; everywhere she went, she would make new friends.  She had a love for life, her family, friends, church family, and for her pet bunny, Buckley.

Joyce possessed a strong work ethic.  She worked hard to receive her dental hygiene degree and was even a recipient of the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler award for her outstanding abilities in clinical work.

Joyce had a strong faith, even through the final stages of her illness.  She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Granite Quarry, where she was active in the church, the choir, and the women’s group, and also directed and assisted with Vacation Bible School.  She was an inspiration to many because regardless of how sick she felt, she would be in the choir every Sunday singing beautifully.

Joyce fought breast cancer for over ten years.  She was a living embodiment of the word "fighter."  She volunteered for Reach to Recovery and was a member of the Celebration of Life support group for women with breast cancer.  She never gave up, and we are thankful that her faith comforted her during her final months.  She would have been pleased to know that she was able to help others even through her death.

She is missed by everyone who knew her.  Much love from your daughter, family and friends!

Deborah Slone Kornegay

May 29, 1949 – October 18, 2007

She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend to everyone.  She was a coordinator of the Meals on Wheels Program of Rocky Mount, NC for approximately 20 years and served as the Secretary of the Men’s Christian Home.

She was a gifted artist and potter.  She loved and cherished Ocracoke Island.  She was a devoted member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rocky Mount.

She was an avid outdoors woman and loved to jog, fish and hunt.  She was generous and caring, and did all she could for those around her.  She had a kind and compassionate heart.

She was a truly special and unique person in that she always gave selflessly of herself to others and wanted or expected absolutely nothing in return.

The North Carolina Eye Bank takes great pride in our ability to share the gift of sight with thousands of people every year through corneal transplant, research and education. This gift does not come without a price. We must remember that for each grateful recipient of a transplanted cornea or medical breakthrough achieved, there is a family who is struggling with the loss of a loved one. These are the stories and remembrances of their family members — the faces of donation.
