Vernon Francis Vest
The following is just a glimpse into the life of a man I am proud to call my father.
Vernon Francis Vest, born in Moore County, North Carolina and raised in Red Springs, North Carolina, lived a life that touched a lot of people. Working for the local Chevrolet dealership for what seemed like an eternity, he never met a stranger. It seemed like he knew everyone and I never heard anyone say one thing negative about him. Everyone who knew my daddy loved him. He was always smiling, joking, or smiling about what he was joking about! Being an avid NASCAR fan, every weekend he faithfully watched the race as he cheered his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt (until his passing, after that it turned to Dale, Jr.) to the finish line.
As for our family, he was the husband of 40 years to wife, Eunice; father to daughter, Sherry and son, Derrick; grandfather to four grandchildren, Matt, Troy, Lindsey and Ryan and an older brother to sister, Janice.
Daddy was, is, and always will be a cornerstone of our family. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it and that’s why organ donation seemed like a logical choice.
The North Carolina Eye Bank takes great pride in our ability to share the gift of sight with thousands of people every year through corneal transplant, research and education. This gift does not come without a price. We must remember that for each grateful recipient of a transplanted cornea or medical breakthrough achieved, there is a family who is struggling with the loss of a loved one. These are the stories and remembrances of their family members — the faces of donation.
